What this calculator does
Rights requests arrive without warning and the one-month clock starts on receipt. This tool converts the receipt date into a firm response-due date — using the legal corresponding-date convention, so an end-of-month request lands on a valid day — and counts the days left so nothing slips.
The three-month extension is not automatic: it applies only where the request is genuinely complex or you have received many, and you must notify the individual within the first month. Toggle it only when those conditions are met and documented.

How long do I have to respond to a DSAR?
GDPR Article 12(3) requires a controller to respond without undue delay and in any event within one month of receiving the request. That month is measured from the day of receipt to the corresponding date the following month (and where no such date exists, the last day of the month). Informational only, not legal advice.
When can I extend to three months?
The one-month period may be extended by up to two further months where necessary, taking into account the complexity and number of the requests. You must inform the data subject of the extension, and the reasons for it, within one month of receiving the request. The calculator's 'complex' toggle applies the full three-month period.
